Welcome to Nathalie’s portfolio!

Nathalie Nunez is a graduating Music Scholar from Hunter College. Having studied classical voice from the age of 14 at the Fiorello H. LaGuardia school of arts, Nathalie has gained a repertoire of classical and jazz voice training, which fuels her drive for performance and storytelling. She uses her guitar to accompany her own original songs, where you can view on Youtube, Soundcloud, and Instagram. In her senior year, Nathalie completed her Mellon Public Humanities fellowship, centering her research on dembow as a urban Dominican music genre which uses afro-centric rhythm and linguistics to decolonize and decenter Eurocentric sonic standards within a nation with a contested racial identity. Part of her project included making a short mockumentary which will be turned into a web series conducting field interviews with Dominican locals around the topic of dembow as a decolonial genre.
